日本軍兵士諸君に告ぐ

Attention, Soldiers of the Japanese Army!

諸君が比島作戦に従軍中、日本軍の将校の中には罪のない婦女子をさえ殺害せよと言う様な、実に軍人精神に反する命令を出したものが幾人もあった事は御承知の事でしょう。

I am sure that you are aware that during your service in the Battle of the Philippines, there were a number of Japanese military officers who gave orders to kill even innocent women and children, which is truly against the spirit of the military.

軍人同士の戦争に非戦闘員である、罪のない婦女子まで殺せと言う様な日本の将校に対し、兵士諸君は定めし失望と恥しさを感ぜられた事でしょう。

I am sure the soldiers must have felt despair and shame at the Japanese officers who ordered them to kill non-combatants, even innocent women and girls, in a war between soldiers.

この樣な將校達は戦闘作戦では見事に失敗し、諸君をこの様な惨めな状態に置きながら、卑怯にも、戦う術もない市民ならばと言うので殺してしまったのです、一方では部下に対し、神の様な兵士になれ、と云う乍ら、こんなことがよくも出来たものです。

How could these commanders, who had failed so spectacularly in combat operations and left you in such a miserable state, cowardly kill citizens who had no way to fight, while telling their men to be god-like soldiers?

諸君はこう言う不名誉は、非武士道敵な事を強いる将校の下に何時までも働く事が出来ますか。

How long can you continue to work for officers who force you to do dishonorable and unbushido-like things like this?

無垢の可弱い、然かも無抵抗な婦女子や悪意のない一般市民に対して、この様な残虐行為をあえてさせた将校に対して、どうして尊敬の念を払う事が出来ましょうか。

How can anyone have respect for officers who dared to commit such atrocities against innocent, weak, and unarmed women and civilians who had no malicious intent?

諸君!よくお考え下さい。

Gentlemen! Please think carefully.

マニラにおいて日本軍が婦女子を虐殺した様に、諸君の両親、妻子が虐待され、殺害されたらどんな気持ちがするでしょうか。

How would you feel if your parents, wives, and children were abused and murdered as the Japanese military massacred women and girls in Manila?
