Supplies and Military Strength

去る九月七日陸相杉山元帥は帝国議会の壇場におして次の如く述べられた。

On September 7, General Sugiyama, Army Minister, stated the following on the stage of the Imperial Diet.

即ち「補給路及び補給基地状況の悪化に伴い我が各戦線が困難な状態に置かれつつある事は誠に残念至極に耐へない」と。

“It is truly regrettable that the deteriorating supply routes and supply base conditions are putting our fronts in a difficult situation,” he said.

これは米軍の比島上陸に先立ち発表されたものであるが果たしてその後の状况はどうであろうか。

This was announced prior to the landing of U.S. forces on the Philippines, but what about the situation since then?

比島を基地とせる聯合軍航空機、艦艇及び潜水艦は同諸島を包囲し南方より石油、ゴム、スズ等積載運輸の途にある日本船舶を探知し撃破する事が出来る。

United States aircraft, naval vessels, and submarines based in the Philippines are capable of encircling the islands and detecting and destroying Japanese vessels on their way to transport oil, rubber, tin, and other cargoes from the south.

日本の軍需工場が渇望しているこれ等重要物資が日本に到達する可能性は果してどうであろうか。

What are the chances of these critical supplies, which are so coveted by Japan's munitions factories, reaching Japan?

日本の補給路及び基地の問題は最近陸軍大臣の右声明当時よりも更に悪化しつつある事がうなずかれる様であり今後も同じ経路をたどる事であろう。

Japan's supply route and base problems have recently become even worse than they were at the time of the Army Minister's afore-mentioned statement, and will continue to follow the same path in the future.

諸君はいくら全力を尽して戦はんとしても補給が充二分に得られない場合果して充分な働きが出来るであろうか。

No matter how hard you try to fight, if you are not adequately supplied, will you be able to do a sufficient job?
