そしてまた帰る日を待っている

And waiting for the day when you'll come home again.

日本人が減ってゆく

The number of Japanese people is decreasing.

最近確かなる筋発表されたところによれば、大東亜戦争が始まってから現在までに日本海軍は二十六万二千の戦死者「軍人軍属合はせて」を出していると云はれる。

According to a reliable source, it is said that the Imperial Japanese Navy has suffered 262,000 military deaths (including military personnel and civilian contractors) since the start of the Greater East Asia War until the present day.

戦死二十六万二千！

War dead 262,000!

口で云えば簡単であるが一人人々数えたら何日かかる別らない。

It's easy to say, but if you counted the number of people, it would take days.

右は海軍だけの数字である。

The figures on the right are only for the navy.

これに陸軍のそれを加えると恐らく戦死者合計は百万を突破するであろう。

If you add the number of casualties from the Army to this, the total number of casualties will probably exceed one million.

またそれに負傷者を加えたらどの仍になるか一寸想像がつかない。

And if you add the wounded to that, I can't imagine what it would become.

日本の軍部が戦争を止めると云はない限り日本人はますます少くなってゆく。

Unless the Japanese military says it will stop the war, the number of Japanese people will continue to decrease.

そして不幸な家族は鼠算的に殖えてくる。

And unfortunate families will multiply rapidly.

憂慮すべき事柄ではないか！

Isn't this a cause for concern?!
