アメリカは捕虜に対しても人間味のある扱いをしている。

The U.S. also treats POWs with humanity.

敵ではあるがしかし祖国のために最善を尽して敗れた勇士であるという同情を以て遇する。

Although they are our enemies, we treat them with sympathy as brave men and who did their best for their country and were defeated.

写真でみられる通り、日本の飛行兵がアメリカの軍艦に救助されている。

As seen in the photo, a Japanese airman is being rescued by an American warship.

やがて戦争が終って、なつかしい人々のふところへ帰る日まで、彼は立派な人間として待遇され、充分な食べ物も与えられる。

He will be treated as a respectable human being and given enough food to eat until the war is over and he returns to his old home.

これが米軍のやりかたなのである。

This is the way of the U.S. military.

多くの搭乗員が片道のガソリンしかもらっていない。

Many crew members received only gasoline for one way.

彼らは救い手のない大洋の果てで、ひと思いに死ぬつもりでやってくるのだが、米艦の鼻先へおちて救いあげられる。

They come to the end of the ocean, where there is no help for them, intending to die alone, but they are rescued when they fall under the nose of a U.S. ship.

そして軍部のために死ぬよりも、将来の日本の為に、自分の命はもっと大事なのだとしるのである。

And they know that their lives are more important for the future of Japan than dying for the military leaders.
