日本軍脳部では過去三ヶ年間に渉り米軍の進攻作戦が総てマニラ市に向けられていたのは百も承知していた。

The Japanese military high command was well aware that for the past three years, all of the US military's offensive operations had been directed towards the city of Manila.

しかも同市の防衛準備の期間が十分与えられていたにも拘らず一度米軍の攻撃に会うやここにもろく陥落した。
