Attention Residents

今米軍はこの島を攻めていますから皆さんの命が危いです。

Now that the U.S. military is attacking this island, your lives are in danger.

米国兵を上陸させる用意の為また日本軍を弱らす為に海岸を爆撃したり、大砲で撃ったりします、然し飛行機から落す爆弾や軍艦から撃つ砲弾はどこへ落ちるかわかりません。

To prepare for the landing of American soldiers and to weaken the Japanese army, we are bombing beaches and firing artillery, but we do not know where bombs dropped from airplanes and shells fired from warships will land.

皆さん方が何時までも海岸の辺に残っていると日本兵や日本軍の使う建物と一緒に潰されます。

If you all remain on the coast for any length of time, you will be crushed along with the Japanese soldiers and the buildings used by the Japanese army.

若し自分の命が大切ならば皆さんは次の指図に従がひなさい。

If you value your life, follow these instructions.

一、海岸の辺りに近寄らない事。

1. Stay away from the coastal areas.

二、米国の落下傘部隊に近寄らない事、米国兵は皆さんがあやしい行いをしなければ悪い事はしませんから決して恐れる必要はありません。

2. Stay away from U.S. paratroopers. U.S. soldiers will not do anything bad if you do not do anything suspicious, so there is no need to be afraid of them.

三、見分のつき易い様に薄い色の着物を着る事。

3. Wear light-colored clothes so that you can be easily told apart [from soldiers].

四、皆さんの中から代表者を日本軍に送って沢山の食物を貰う事

4. Send a representative from among you to the Japanese army to receive a large amount of food.

五、米軍から指図のあるまでは安全な奥地に隠れて待っている事

5. Hide and wait in a safe, secluded area until the U.S. military gives you instructions.

六、米軍の指図を受ける者には食物、着物、飲水を差上げます。

6. Those who receive instructions from the U.S. military will be given food, clothing, and water to drink.

七、自分の家の近くにかくれたり建物や穴の中にいる日本兵と一緒にならない事。

7. Do not join Japanese soldiers who are hiding near your house or in buildings or holes.

八、指図のあるまでは決して近寄らない事

8. Never approach until instructed to do so.

九、近い中に皆さんが怪我をしない樣に指図した新しいビラを撒きますから注意している事。

9. Please be careful as we will soon be distributing new leaflets with instructions to prevent you from getting hurt.

米軍は皆さんに怪我をさせたくないのです。

The U.S. military does not want to hurt you.

それで米軍の指図に従うのは皆さんの義務であって皆さんの為です。

So it is your duty for your own good to follow the instructions of the U.S. military.
