Awakened from the dream.

蘭貢の奪還により聯合軍は東南アジアから日本軍を掃蕩する作戦の第一段階を終了したといへる。

With the recapture of Rangoon, the Allied Forces have completed the first phase of their campaign to sweep Japanese forces out of Southeast Asia.

ビルマには元十箇師団の日本軍があつたのだがこれは散々に敗れて残るは連絡を断れた敗残部隊で、どうにかしてビルマから脱出しようとしている。

There is a former Japanese army of 10 divisions in Burma, but it has been defeated so badly that the remaining defeated troops, who have lost contact with the Japanese, are trying to escape from Burma somehow.

如何に勇猛心をみなぎらせても拙い兵器や数少い砲兵では聯合軍の戦車、火焔放射器、航空機、大砲などの大集団を持つ近代的機甲化部隊には敵し得ない事が今度の大戦果ではっきりして来たのだ。

The results of the recent battles have made it clear that no matter how much bravery and courage you exert, poor weaponry and small numbers of artillery cannot compete with modern armored forces with large groups of tanks, flamethrowers, aircraft, artillery, etc., of the Allied Forces.

近代機械化戦の難問にぶつかって陸軍の将星は手の下しようがなかった。

The army generals were out of their depth when they ran into the challenges of modern mechanized warfare.

彼等が無能を掩はんとしてなし得た事は第一線の将兵に無闇矢鱈な作命を連発して、出来ない事をやれと命じた位が関の山だった。

The most they could do to cover up their incompetence was to issue a series of rash orders to the front-line generals, telling them to do the impossible.

軍の癌とも云うべき幕僚の病勢は募るばかりで、参謀は敗戦や撤退を考慮に入れていなかつた為、現在ではどうして良いのか途方に暮れている始末だ。

The staff officers, which are considered a cancer of the military, are becoming increasingly ill, and the general staff is now at a loss as to what to do, since they had not taken the defeat or withdrawal into consideration.

ドイツは無条件降伏した。

ヨーロッパに於ける戦争は終ったので聯合軍は對日戰に全力を集中する事になった。

With the war in Europe over, the Allied Forces have concentrated their efforts on the war against Japan.

ビルマでもそうだが太平洋域でも日本軍は最早勝てないのだ。

Dying futility in a stinking jungle does nothing for your country.

戦後の御国に尽すには生き抜かなければならない。

To serve your country after the war, you must live through it.

我々は君にその機会を与える。

We give you that chance.

抗戦を中止した事を我々にはっきり示せば君を後方の収容所へ直ちに送りそれどころで君の戦友幾千名と共に暮せるのだ。

If you show us clearly that you have stopped fighting, we will immediately send you to a rear camp, where you can live with thousands of your comrades-in-arms.

国際法適要下に君は厚遇を受け、決して馬鹿にはされない。

You will be treated well under international law, and you will not be ridiculed.

The soldier showing this are those who have ceased resistance.

必要なれば給養医薬を施し大事に保護すべし。

When you approach our army, raise both your hands above your head and wave this paper or a white object.

そして「アイ・サレンダー」と叫びなさい。

そうすれば決して悪い様にはしない。
